The Kindergarten - ProgramMozarts approaches all areas of the curriculum through music dramatic play and art. We have specific curriculum areas which are detailed below. Time For Einsteins
Children are invited to sit around Mr Einstein's Flying Carpet and a single topic is chosen from a constantly changing selection of books and resources. Children are encouraged to demonstrate their understanding of the lesson by illustrating it in their science scrapbooks. The teacher will ask them to supply a caption which is written in as they dictate it. Numeracy and Mathematics
Chart stories are a creative and imaginative way of teaching numeracy. They are short poems or chants with small laminated photos which children use to help tell the story. We use props and music to help tell the story which is acted out with enthusiastic noisy participation Art and Technology
Wear your oldest clothes! From fantastic murals to intricate cotton bud etchings, the art work produced is extraordinary and fantastic. There are 3 art activities set up in the art room each week, broad brush easel painting, a tactile activity such as clay or play dough, and a third table which may be collage, dyes, fine brush or a more specialised seasonal activity. Literacy
We aim to engender a love of the printed word and books in general by providing energetic and imaginative story tellings. We are concerned primarily with the generation of original ideas and encourage children to participate in storytellings by way of chants and simple repetitive phrases. Above all we want storytelling to be filled with laughter and fun and creative self expression. Music Dance and Drama
The daily drama workshop happens every session after library time. A story is read and then this is followed by an adventure! Elements of the story are chosen which are suitable for young children to interpret through physical activities and improvised dialogue. Everyone participates to their own level and has fun as stories come to life before our eyes. Children's Orchestra
This operates on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons as an extension group. We use a selection of tuned and untuned percussion intruments and demonstrate to parents twice a year. We concentrate on children developing an understanding of the relationship between the natural rhythm of words and the constructed rhythm of musical notation. Simple stories are told using rhythmic patterns and chants. A small group of children, who show interest, are taught simple notation. The Four Year Old ChoirComprising around 50 children, the Four Year Old Choir is unique. The Kindergarten produces its own audio tapes with original arrangements of folksongs, traditional songs and some modern pop ballads. There is often a story as well. Children love learning the songs which are all done with accompanying actions and the concert is a highlight for parents and friends who take delight in being an audience.
Little Wolfgangs
A specialist drama group operates on Friday afternoons. More in depth work on emotions found in storytelling and how to display them, dramatic games to encourage communication and expressiveness. The Christmas Pageant
From the great wealth of delightful Christmas literature is chosen a story which reflects some aspect of Christmas. Sometimes it's Northern Hemisphere, sometimes Southern. Working together as a cohesive group children prepare a dance drama that interprets the story. Parents are welcome but bear in mind that rather than being audience they are privileged intruders into a special world of magic and make-believe. |
