The Kindergarten: Learning Program

Mozarts approaches all areas of preschool curriculum through music, dramatic play and art. We have specific curriculum areas which are detailed below.

Time For Einsteins

Children are invited to sit around Mr Einstein's Flying Carpet and a single topic is chosen from a constantly changing selection of books and resources. Children are encouraged to demonstrate their understanding of the lesson by illustrating it in their science scrapbooks. The teacher will ask them to supply a caption which is written in as they dictate it.

Numeracy and Mathematics

Chart stories are a creative and imaginative way of teaching numeracy. They are short poems or chants with small laminated photos which children use to help tell the story. We use props and music to help tell the story which is acted out with enthusiastic noisy participation.

Art and Technology

Wear your oldest clothes! From fantastic murals to intricate cotton bud etchings, the art work produced is extraordinary and fantastic. There are 3 art activities set up in the art room each week, broad brush easel painting, a tactile activity such as clay or play dough, and a third table which may be collage, dyes, fine brush or a more specialised seasonal activity.

Literacy

We aim to engender a love of the printed word and books in general by providing energetic and imaginative story tellings. We are concerned primarily with the generation of original ideas and encourage children to participate in storytellings by way of chants and simple repetitive phrases. Above all we want storytelling to be filled with laughter and fun and creative self expression.

Music Dance and Drama

The daily drama workshop happens every session after library time. A story is read and then this is followed by an adventure! Elements of the story are chosen which are suitable for young children to interpret through physical activities and improvised dialogue. Everyone participates to their own level and has fun as stories come to life before our eyes.

Outdoor Play

Our playground is extensively developed for children's robust physical needs. A gangplank leads to a pirate ship sandpit, next to which are a miniature version of the pancake rocks, complete with a trickling brook - (sadly no blowholes). A gingerbread house and fort, a daffodil cottage and a forest glade with a swing bridge complete the picture.
